  1.          Use of the CCSY Knowledge Worker Solution with Banyan Vines

  5. Various customer requests come in from time to time in regard to use of
  6. the Knowledge Worker Solution products with Banyan Vines. The following
  7. message explains how to run a dual network stack (Vines and ARPA) on
  8. the PC in order to allow most of the Knowledge Worker Solution products
  9. to work. Products that should work fine with this solution are:

  11.                 HP Information Access
  12.                 HP Document Manager
  13.                 HP OpenMail
  14.                 HP DeskManager
  15.                 HP WorkRouter
  16.                 IBI EDA
  17.  
  18. The only Knowledge Worker Solution product that will not work with the
  19. dual stack is Verity TOPIC. This is because TOPIC does not use ARPA
  20. services for PC to server communication, but instead (as integrated in
  21. the HP Cooperative Computing Solution) uses the file sharing
  22. capabilities of LAN Manager/X, Novell Netware, PacerShare, or NFS.
  23. (Note that TOPIC will work with Banyan Vines, but not using a Series
  24. 800 server.)

  27. Limitations and Disclaimers

  30. o It is not possible to run both LAN Manager and Banyan Vines on the
  31. same PC.
  32.  
  33. o It is not possible to run both Netware and Banyan Vines on the same
  34. PC.
  35.  
  36. o It is not possible to use the Enterprise Information Server (SSP
  37. #A2324A) with Banyan Vines. This is because HP JoinWare (required as
  38. part of the Enterprise Information Server) must use LAN Manager/X or
  39. Novell Netware for distributing software to PC clients.

  41. o Although customers are actually using Banyan Vines with ARPA services
  42. in the manner described below, CCSY has not officially certified such
  43. use as part of the integrated CCSY solution.
  44.  
  45. o HP provides standard HP support for ARPA Services 2.1.  HP does not
  46. provide standard HP support for Banyan Vines (whether used with or
  47. without ARPA Services 2.1).
